Residents are being urged to shop local and support Anglesey’s towns and high streets this Christmas.
The cost-of-living crisis continues to impact many local businesses as well as individuals, families and communities. Shopping locally this festive season will help give local shops and businesses a well-deserved boost.
As part of its drive to back local businesses, Isle of Anglesey County Council is asking them to share their Christmas offers, gift ideas and products on social media, using the hashtag #AngleseyXmas These will then be shared on the Council’s @VisitAnglesey social media channels.
County Council owned car parks in Amlwch, Benllech, Holyhead and Llangefni will be free of charge after 10am between 10 December and 28 December to encourage more shopping in our towns and high streets. A full list of council owned car parks which will be free of charge during December 10-28th can be found here: https://www.anglesey.gov.wales/en/Residents/Parking-roads-and-travel/Parking/Christmas-parking.aspx
Free parking is already available at car parks in Menai Bridge town and at the Island's two park and share sites throughout December and January, thanks to Welsh Government support following the closure of the Menai Suspension Bridge.
Tomorrow, (Saturday, 3 December) also marks the 10th anniversary of the national Small Business Saturday campaign.
Anglesey’s Economic Development portfolio holder, Councillor Carwyn Jones, is backing Small Business Saturday and the shop local message.
Cllr Jones said, “Local shops and business have had a tough time of it during the past few years and many continue to struggle. We really want to get behind local business this year more than ever. It would be great to see the Anglesey community come together to support them – starting this weekend on Small Business Saturday and during the run-up to Christmas!”
“We have a fantastic range of small businesses here on Anglesey and this Saturday marks the 10th anniversary of Small Business Saturday, a national campaign to support and draw attention to our small businesses and celebrate all that they contribute to local economy and communities.”
He added, “Our small businesses have plenty of quality products and provide fabulous service. I would urge everyone to explore their High Street, enjoy the festive activities and get that unique Christmas gift that you can’t get online from our local businesses here on the island.”
