Course: Mindfulness Awareness

Date: Friday, 07 May 2021

Time: 09:15 - 12:45

Venue: Zoom

Course Outline

Most of us find ourselves frequently ‘swept away’ by the current of thoughts and feelings, worries, pressures, responsibilities; wanting things to be different from how they are right now. Mindfulness can help us to work directly with the struggle we sometimes have in relating to life’s experience and in doing so can really improve the quality of our life. Mindfulness practices enable us to develop the ability to pay deliberate attention to our experience from moment to moment without judgment. We learn to tune in to what is going on in our mind and body day-by-day and learn to really land in the here and now. There is considerable evidence to show that mindfulness reduces stress and helps build emotional resilience.

In this half-day session, you will be introduced to the idea of mindfulness. But most importantly it provides an opportunity for you to practise mindfulness, to give you an experiential flavour of the approach, including short practices that you can use to support yourself in the course of day-to-day living, both in our working lives and life outside of work. We will also look briefly at some of the evidence of its effectiveness as well as how and where mindfulness has been applied in our society.
