Course Outline
The course covers general awareness, the differences between the two conditions; Autism and Mental Illness and improves the practitioners’ competence when assessing those whom are, or have been detained under the MHA 1983.
Aims of the Course
An overview of Autism and Asperger Syndrome
- To provide participants with an understanding of diagnosis, prevalence and causes
- To enable participants to understand the main mental health needs associated with Autism
- To enable participants to understand the connections between Autism and schizophrenia, including anxiety conditions, depression, OCD, ADD etc
- To enable participants to understand the impact of sensory issues in Autism and mental health
- To provide case studies in order to develop and promote good practice in identifying mental illness in those with Autism
