Course Outline
This course will give candidates a greater understanding of cerebral palsy and to enhance a person-centred approach to providing compassionate care to those living with the condition.
It will cover holistic assessment of physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs and consider the balance between potential benefit and burden of treatment. Symptom management to optimize quality of life and the need for a holistic approach.
Aims of the Course
By the end of the course delegates will have a better understanding of:
- Defining cerebral palsy – its cause and prevalence
- Common symptoms of cerebral palsy
- Diagnosis of the condition
- Different types of cerebral palsy
- Hemiplegia, diplegia monoplegia and quadriplegia and hypertonia
- Life expectancy with cerebral palsy and factors affecting this
- Cerebral Palsy diet & nutritional needs
- Attention to detail in attending to patient & family needs
- Therapy interventions – physio & speech therapy
- Support & care of those living with cerebral palsy & their families/loved ones.
- Care Planning goals for those living with cerebral palsy
