Course Outline

Urinary catheters and faecal stomas can increase a person’s chance of developing infection greatly if not properly cared for. This half day course gives those with responsibility for their care the knowledge and practical ways devices should be cared for, once fitted.

  • Types of urinary catheter: Indwelling, Suprapubic, Sheath
  • Catheter care
  • Problem spotting
  • Ostomies: Ileostomy, Colostomy, Jejunostomy, Gastrostomy
  • Stoma care
  • Stoma appliances: One piece and two piece
  • Stoma accessories
  • Diet and stomas
