Welsh Government childcare for all two-year-olds
Welsh Government is committed to providing childcare for all 2 year olds.
The childcare part of the Welsh Government’s funded Flying Start programme is expanding using a phased approach. Currently only some areas in Anglesey are part of this childcare offer.
Anglesey settings that provide childcare at 2 are being supported to provide high quality childcare. Robust arrangements are in place to support children between the home and the childcare setting and from childcare into early education.
What your child can expect
You can get free childcare for your child for 2½ hours a day, 5 days a week during school terms. This lasts for 39 weeks in a year.
Your child can start the term after they turn 2, and it ends the term after they turn 3. The childcare must be at a place that is approved to care for 2-year-olds in your local area.
Check if you are eligible
Please use the postcode checker to see if you are eligible for free childcare for 2 to 3 year olds.
If you are eligible, you will be asked to complete an application and provide evidence.
Your application will be determined in 10 working days and you will be sent confirmation of your child’s eligibility which you must show to your chosen childcare setting.
As a parent or carer you can chose the setting based within your locality. This must be within 15 minutes walking distance of your eligible address.
Your child is eligible to start a funded placement the term following their second birthday.
