Ynys Môn’s sports clubs and voluntary organisations are set to benefit from £400,000 - provided by the UK government's Shared Prosperity Fund – to ensure we live on ‘an active island.’
The Shared Prosperity Fund is a UK government-allocated fund which is intended to reduce inequalities between communities, as part of its wider Levelling Up agenda.
It will now allow Isle of Anglesey County Council and its leisure service, Môn Actif, to jointly administer the new Creu Ynys Actif fund.
The fund is open to any not-for-profit organisation (such as a sports club, charity, social enterprise, voluntary organisation) that complies with the application guidelines. Applications can now be submitted and must be received by 11 March 2024.
It is possible to apply for amounts between £5,000 and £30,000, to fund a project in its entirety, or to partially fund a larger project. Each application will be expected either to:
- create additional / new opportunities to be physically active in sports or fitness and wellbeing activities, or
- contribute towards the sustainability of organisations that provide the above opportunities
Online application forms are available on the Isle of Anglesey County Council website here: www.anglesey.gov.wales/creu-ynys-actif-fund
More information about the fund and help to complete applications can be sought from the Môn Actif Grants Support Officer, Dave Barker, and Môn CF.
Leisure portfolio holder, Councillor Neville Evans said, “This is welcome funding which will help our sports clubs and voluntary organisations. It will also support the council achieve its own vision of creating ‘an Anglesey that is healthy and prosperous where people can thrive.’ I look forward seeing our sports clubs, groups and local communities benefit from the Creu Ynys Actif fund.”
Christian Branch, Head of the Regulation and Economic Development Service added, “I hope that this fund truly benefits our communities and encourage clubs and groups to apply. We want to see grants provided via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund support our communities and organisations to increase participation and physical activity for the island’s residents. Those applying should also demonstrate how they intend to meet objectives included in the Council Plan 2023-28.”
