With the closure of schools, nurseries, day centres and other services during the current coronavirus pandemic, Anglesey County Council’s Social Services is urging everyone to keep their eyes and ears open for children and vulnerable adults who may be at risk during this time.

The County Council is asking the island’s communities to work with them during this challenging time to keep children and vulnerable adults safe from harm during the enforced break in normal routine.

Fôn Roberts, Anglesey’s Head of Children and Families Services, recognises the impact a significant change in day-to-day life may have on children and vulnerable adults,  “Schools and nurseries in Anglesey play a central role in contributing to the safety of all local children, especially those who may be at risk of abuse and neglect.”

“Although we are making every effort possible to support those children and families who may need it during these demanding times, we are also asking the people of Anglesey to help us and keep an eye out for them.”

“Everybody has a role to play to protect potentially vulnerable children and vulnerable adults during the Coronavirus outbreak and I’m urging you to keep your eyes and ears open to keep them safe. If you’re at all worried about the welfare of a child or vulnerable adult, it’s much better to say something than do nothing.”

Anglesey County Council’s Leader, Cllr Llinos Medi stressed the need for the public to join the council’s efforts, “This is a challenging time for us all and it’s important that we all support and look after each other. Local people can always help to protect children and vulnerable adults and now that’s even more important with families under significant additional stress. I would urge anyone who may have any concerns for a child or vulnerable adult to contact the County Council immediately, so that the authority can take appropriate steps to help and support those involved.”
