Poultry plant closure announcement puts 730 jobs at risk

News of yet more potential job losses on Anglesey has been met with immense disappointment by Council Leader, Councillor Llinos Medi.

The 2 Sisters Food Group plans to close its poultry processing plant in Llangefni putting 730 jobs at risk.

Responding to today’s announcement, Councillor Llinos Medi, said:

“This is another devastating blow for the Island with 730 people employed at the 2 Sisters plant. Those employees and families impacted are our priority and immediate concern, especially with the cost-of-living crisis continuing to bite. We will work with the company and partners to ensure that they receive the support they deserve.”

“Now is also the time for urgent and decisive action from both UK and Welsh Governments – both of which can facilitate more investment and much needed jobs on the Island.”

The 2 Sisters Food Group earlier today (Wednesday, January 25th) announced that its poultry processing plant in Llangefni was no longer sustainable and that it planned to close.

In a statement, the company said that the site on the Llangefni Industrial Estate was old, one of its smallest sites and lacked space to be efficient. The cost to produce there was higher, and would require significant investment to bring it up to the standards of our other factories in the group. Products can be made more efficiently elsewhere across its estate.
