Isle of Anglesey County Council

New trainee programme looks to the future

More and more young people are being given an opportunity to find work and develop meaningful careers with the Isle of Anglesey County Council.

The County Council today launched its new Dyfodol Môn Future Programme to recruit 15 new trainees this year. The traineeship programme will offer successful applicants with opportunities to go on to further education and full-time employment.

As Anglesey’s largest employer, the County Council provides jobs for more than 3,000 people.

The range of job and career development opportunities offered by the Isle of Anglesey County Council is vast, ranging from plumbers and electricians, to librarians, planning officers and even IT technicians.

The traineeship programme also demonstrates the Council’s commitment to develop its own talent into future public sector leaders as well as supporting the wider workforce planning.

At the end of the programme (which will be a minimum of two years), trainees are guaranteed temporary work for a further six month period; together with a competitive salary and range of employee benefits.

Anglesey’s Chief Executive, Dylan J. Williams, began his own career as an Economic Development and Planning trainee with the Council in 1996.

He explained, “I came to work to the Council because I wanted to live and work locally, contribute and make a difference. This remains the case, and I am still as passionate and committed as ever.”

“I believe this programme is one of the most important within the County Council. The Dyfodol Môn Future Programme offers young people a great opportunity through a whole host of entry-level roles and subsequent career paths. These traineeships demonstrate our commitment by providing meaningful opportunities which combine a salary, qualifications, and on the job experiences.”

“This year, the trainee roles on offer include an accountant, planning officer, social workers, care home manager, climate change technician, digital and social media and human resources. The appointed individuals will also follow specialist courses at various colleges.”

Being able to attract committed and able staff forms a key part of the County Council’s long-term recruitment and retention efforts.

Applications for the Dyfodol Môn Future Programme opened today (Thursday, 14 April)  and close on Wednesday, 4 May. More information and application forms for the various traineeships on offer can be found here: https://recruitment.anglesey.gov.uk/

Dylan J. Williams added, “The County Council is the Island’s largest employer and we are committed to providing local people with opportunities to continue to work, develop, and live here. We are eager to recruit people who want to make a positive difference on the Island, and welcome all applications.”
