Isle of Anglesey County Council

New council housing for local residents

Tenants have moved into their new homes after eight council properties were completed in Llanfachraeth.

The new Erw Lon Yr Ysgol estate is the latest development to support the council priority to provide quality affordable housing for Anglesey residents.

The new council estate is made up of four bungalows (2x1 bedroom and 2x2 bedrooms) and four two-bedroom houses. The properties have been allocated to eligible tenants using the common housing policy and Tai Teg affordable housing register, both of which give priority to residents local to the area.

Visiting the new estate yesterday, Anglesey’s Housing portfolio holder, Councillor Alun Mummery, said, “This is the latest council housing development project on the island. It represents our continuing commitment to providing local tenants and families with quality homes in their communities.”

“The council's housing service has a statutory responsibility to assess housing need and lead on partnership working to provide quality housing on Anglesey. Our Housing Strategy 2022-2027 continues to play an integral role as we work independently, and with key partners, to meet the needs of our local residents now and in the future.”

All the properties at the Erw Lon Yr Ysgol estate include air source heating, which is more energy efficient and cost effective.

Head of Housing Services, Ned Michael, explained, “Our work with key partners - including the Welsh Government, housing associations and other agencies – is ensuring that we are meeting housing needs through varying tenures in local communities.”

“Over the next five years, we will continue to offer a range of affordable housing options as well as offer advice and support to local individuals and families living on the island.”
