More new sites ready as part of Anglesey Childcare Offer Capital Project

Two more new sites have been successfully completed as part of the County Council’s Childcare Offer Capital Project.

Over the past few weeks two new state-of-the-art modular units have been developed on the Ysgol Tywyn and Ysgol Esceifiog sites.

They follow the opening of an all-day childcare provision at Gofal Miri Morswyn and Gofal Maelog in September.

As with these sites, the new childcare provison at Eseifiog and Tywyn will operate full day childcare from 8.00am to 6.00pm, including school holidays. This childcare provision is also open to children beyond the school’s catchment.

The new childcare provision has been developed on a number of school sites by the Education Department’s Supporting Families Unit sites using funding from the Welsh Government's Childcare Offer Capital Programme.

The Childcare Offer Capital Funding Programme is managed by the Supporting Families Unit in conjunction with the Council’s Architectural Services, and in partnership with the Schools and the Welsh Government.

Supporting Families Unit Manager, Bethan Hywel Jones, explained, “The main aim of the capital programme is to support the co-location of the foundation phase and childcare provision whenever possible.”

“This complements the Welsh Government's economy action plan, 'Prosperity For All', to introduce Community Learning Centres, which provide extended services of childcare, parenting support, family learning and community access to facilities organised around the school day. By developing these projects and new all day childcare locations, we hope to provide a seamless transition between the foundation phase and the childcare offer.”

Education portfolio holder, Councillor Meirion Jones, added, “As part of this sustainable project, our aim is to serve Anglesey communities across the generations and ensure closer collaboration to achieve targets in education as well as tackling anti-poverty. We are using Welsh Government funding to provide new and long-term sustainable assets for communities and working to meet the needs of parents.”

Ysgol Esceifiog Head teacher, Llinos A. Davies explained, “We at Ysgol Esceifiog are very pleased to have the opportunity to have such exiting provision on the school site. The new modular building looks good and includes brand new facilities for children that meet the appropriate requirements for an all-day childcare provision.”

Ysgol y Tywyn Head teacher, Emyr Williams added, “We are extremely pleased and excited to see this investment at Tywyn. This programme will provide many families with an opportunity to take full advantage of all-day childcare provision. We look forward to working closely with both staff and families in ensuring continuity in early years education, whilst also providing excellent childcare provision in the after school club.”

Childcare providers now have the chance to apply for the opportunity to run a Full Day Childcare service in these new settings.

Interested childcare providers should visit the Sell2Wales website for further details including an invitation to tender.
