Môn Actif, in partnership with Adults Social Services, recently hosted an open day at Canolfan Beaumaris aimed at getting those over 50 years old more active.
The free event included a variety of different activities, which included:
- Walking netball
- Badminton, Pickleball and Table Tennis
- Fitness room sessions
- Group exercise classes
- Adult learning sessions and information stalls.
The activities were led by a team of Môn Actif fitness professionals which saw approximately sixty over 50’s taking part in various fitness exercises.
Anglesey residents attending the open day at Canolfan Beaumaris were also offered the opportunity to watch Wales’ World Cup game vs Iran game as the centre opened its doors as a warm space.
Eban Geal, who works as the Dementia Officer for Môn Actif, explained, “We are delighted to be able to offer this open day Anglesey residents. Here at Môn Actif, we offer activities to people of all ages and abilities. This open day highlighted the inclusive range of activities that Canolfan Beaumaris can offer.”
He added, “The aim of the open day was to provide an opportunity to individuals 50+ to take part in activities that they usually wouldn’t consider. We have also seen individuals’ confidence improve since taking part in the activities which has encouraged further participation at the centre.”
As well as a range of sports and activities, Officers from Gorwel, Direct Payments, Canolfan Beaumaris, Age Friendly Anglesey, Adults’ Learning Service, Carers Outreach and Citizens Advice Bureau were on hand to provide residents with information and advice.
Age Friendly Communities Development Officer, Sioned Young, said “The Isle of Anglesey County Council is committed to creating an Age Friendly Anglesey, where there are no barriers to ageing well.”
“The 50+ Open Days are aligned with many of the Age Friendly Communities priorities, from increasing opportunities to stay healthy and active to taking information and support out to the community through the various 3rd sector organisations.”
Future Open Days are scheduled in Centres at Holyhead, Llangefni and Menai Bridge in the new year.
