The annual Sir Kyffin Williams lecture at Oriel Môn: ‘Painting Conservation Insights’ by Jenny Williamson

Art enthusiasts are invited to attend this year’s Sir Kyffin Williams Trust Annual Lecture at Oriel Môn, Llangefni, on Friday, 5 June 2026 at 7pm.

The lecture will be delivered by renowned paintings conservator Jenny Williamson BA (Hons) ACR FIIC, who will present “Painting Conservation Insights”.

The event offers a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the science and artistry behind painting conservation, providing fascinating insights into both historical works and the creative process.

Jenny Williamson is a highly respected figure in the field of conservation. She has worked extensively with Welsh collections throughout her career, including more than twenty years at the National Library of Wales, and currently works as an independent consultant and part-time Conservation Officer at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea.

She has also lectured at Aberystwyth University and is a Fellow of the International Institute of Conservation.

In her lecture, Jenny will explore how conservation can reveal new stories about artworks. The talk will include a case study of an oil painting attributed to Sir Peter Lely, where scientific investigation and art historical research helped uncover key facts about its origins. The second part of the lecture will focus on the conservation of eight paintings by Sir Kyffin Williams, offering a rare insight into the artist’s materials, techniques and artistic development over time.

Speaking ahead of the event, Jenny said, “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to deliver this year’s Kyffin Williams lecture at Oriel Môn. Conservation allows us to look beneath the surface of paintings and uncover the stories hidden within them, and I look forward to sharing some of these discoveries with the audience.”

Anglesey’s Senior Manager: Archives, Museum and Gallery Services, Kelly Parry, added, “We are very pleased to welcome Jenny to deliver the 2026 Sir Kyffin Williams Trust Annual Lecture. Her extensive expertise and experience will provide an engaging and informative evening, celebrating both the legacy of Sir Kyffin Williams and the wider field of art conservation.”

Tickets are £5 per person, including refreshments, and can be purchased on the Oriel Môn website or by calling 01248 724444. Booking is essential.
