The Isle of Anglesey County Council today (Tuesday, 24 May) elected Councillor Dafydd Roberts as its new chairman.
Cllr Roberts thanked members of the new Isle of Anglesey County Council for bestowing him with the honour of civic head during 2022/23.
Cllr Roberts was elected earlier this month as one of two members serving the new Bodowyr ward, which covers the communities of Llanddaniel Fab, Llanfihangel Esceifiog and Llanidan. He had previously represented the Bro Rhosyr on the Authority since 2017.
Commenting after his election, Cllr Roberts, said, “To be elected as Council Chairman a privilege and I thank my fellow councillors for their faith in me. I will represent the Island and its residents to the best of my abilities. I look forward to my year in office and undertaking my many civic duties with pride.”
Born and bred in Llanddaniel, he attended to Ysgol Parc y Bont and Ysgol David Hughes, before graduating in physics and computing at Aberystwyth University.
After some time working abroad, Dafydd established his own company offering consultancy services in the field of laboratory automation. He also previously spent a decade working with the Welsh Development Agency and more recently worked with Motorsport-Tools in Llithfaen.
He has also been a member of Llanddaniel Community Council since 2004 and is currently the Chair of Governors at Ysgol Parc y Bont. He is also a partner in the family farm in Brynsiencyn.
Dafydd is married to the author Mared Lewis, and they have two sons, Elis and Iddon.
Cllr Margaret Murley Roberts, who represents the Lligwy ward, was today also elected as vice-chair for 2022/23.
