A pupil attending Ysgol Llanfairpwll has tested positive for Coronavirus.
Parents and staff were informed earlier today (Friday, October 16th) and issued with guidance provided by Public Health Wales.
There is currently no evidence to suggest transmission within the school setting and Ysgol Llanfairpwll will remain open for unaffected classes.
NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect has been informed of the confirmed positive case and relevant pupils and staff have been told to self-isolate for 14 days; and remain alert for any symptoms of the virus, including:
- new or continuous cough
- a high temperature or
- a loss of or change to sense of smell or taste
Those advised to self-isolated should book a Coronavirus test if they develop any of these symptoms, even if they are mild:
Anglesey’s Chief Executive, Annwen Morgan, said, “Coronavirus rates are currently rising on the Island and unfortunately we may well see more and more of these cases amongst children of school age.”
“None of us can afford to rest on our laurels as far as this terrible virus is concerned. It is vital that we all continue to follow Welsh Government guidance at all times. Wash your hands regularly, wear a face covering when required and keep social distancing. Our thoughts are with this child, the family and entire school community.”
She added, “The wellbeing of our pupils, staff and wider community is our main priority, and we will continue to monitor the situation at Ysgol Llanfairpwll, as well as other affected schools, to see whether any further action is needed.”
Anglesey Council continues to work closely with all schools and each one has measures in place to limit the potential spread of virus. These include extra cleaning, separation of classes and promoting good hygiene amongst pupils.
Information provided to parents and staff has been issued under the instruction of: Test Trace and Protect regional hub on behalf of Public Health Wales Health Protection Team.
