Charles Tunnicliffe and the Royal Academy of Arts

A stunning exhibition showcasing the work of Charles Tunnicliffe and the Royal Academy of Arts is currently being shown at Oriel Môn.

Since Oriel Môn opened its doors in 1991, visitors from all over the world have flocked here to see the wonderful work by the famous wildlife artist who made his home by the scenic Malltraeth Estuary, where he recorded and painted many varieties of birds and animals.

This exhibition focuses on his connection with the Royal Academy of Arts in London.  In 1928, Charles Tunnicliffe displayed his first two pieces of work at the Royal Academy’s summer exhibition. Throughout the 1930s he was exhibiting regularly, and in 1944 he was accepted as an associated member for his work as an engraver. Ten years later, Tunnicliffe was elected as a full member of the Royal Academy. From then on, began an illustrious and successful relationship with one of the world’s most prestigious arts establishments.

Ian Jones, Buildings and Collections Manager, at Oriel Môn, said, “This exhibition explores the artists’ involvement with the RA, highlighting some of the works that he submitted during his long career. The exhibition contains an interesting selection of wood engravings, etchings and watercolours, providing us with a taste of Charles Tunnicliffe’s incredible artistic ability.”

Charles Tunnicliffe and the Royal Academy of Arts exhibition can be seen until the 23rd of February 2020.  Oriel Môn is open daily between 10am and 5pm and admission is free.  For further information please contact 01248 724444 / www.orielynysmon.info
