A national charity and Oriel Môn are excited to announce the first guided walk on Sunday 27 June at 10.30am which is open to all members of the public.
The walks are inspired by local artist, Kyffin Williams. The walk is open to all but booking in advance is necessary as numbers are limited due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Living Streets Cymru, part of the UK charity for everyday walking have joined forces with Oriel Môn to create easy walks in three areas on Anglesey – at Trearddur Bay, Llangefni and Pwllfanogl. A newly designed, free Kyffin Williams Walking Trail map showing all three walks has also been created.
The project has been supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the #15MinuteHeritage programme. Regular guided walks will be offered at the three locations under the guidance of Oriel Môn staff and volunteers.
The project will support mental and physical wellbeing and connect local people to the work of Kyffin Williams at scenic locations on Anglesey. The led walks will be as accessible as possible, and will follow Covid-19 restrictions.
Rhiannon Hardiman, Manager, Living Streets Cymru said:
"The led walks are a great way of helping people start to get back outside and enjoying their local area post-lockdown safely.
"Getting out to walk in fresh air is important for our wellbeing, helping us stay active and connected to people around us. The Kyffin Williams walking trails have the added bonus of teaching us about the art heritage that's right on our doorstep."
Born in Llangefni in 1918, Kyffin Williams is widely regarded as one of the most defining Welsh artists of the twentieth century and his paintings depict the ruggedness of Welsh landscapes and coastlines, often in wet, bleak and turbulent weather. Through his sketching and painting ‘en plein air’, he sets a great example of the fact that walking is all about what you wear and can be enjoyed come rain or shine.

Yr Awyr Agored (the open outdoors in English) is a partnership project between Living Streets Cymru and Oriel Môn and launches in summer 2021. Supported by Cadw – the Welsh Government’s historic environment service and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Yr Awyr Agored is a bilingual walking trail of some of Kyffin Williams’ most famous landscape painting locations. This is Living Streets Cymru’s first project based in north Wales.
We are Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking.
We want to create a nation where walking is the natural choice for everyday, local journeys; free from congested roads and pollution, reducing the risk of preventable illnesses and social isolation. We want to achieve a better walking environment and to inspire people of all generations to enjoy the benefits the simple act of walking brings.
For over 90 years we’ve been a beacon for walking. In our early days our campaigning led to the UK’s first zebra crossings and speed limits. Now our campaigns and local projects deliver real change to overcome barriers to walking and our ground-breaking initiatives such as the world’s biggest Walk to School campaign encourage millions of people to walk.
