Arfon Haines Davies to deliver annual Sir Kyffin Williams memorial lecture at Oriel Môn

Join Arfon Haines Davies as he reminisces about his friendship with Kyffin Williams in a lecture organised by the Sir Kyffin Williams Trust.

The son of a Wesleyan minister, Arfon was born in Caernarfon and lived in several parts of Wales during his youth because of his father’s profession. He was educated at Ardwyn Grammar School in Aberystwyth, Ysgol Glan Clwyd in Rhyl, Trinity College, Carmarthen and the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

After a brief period teaching, he joined HTV Wales in 1975 as a presenter and for 30 years was one of the most familiar and popular faces on the channel. During this period, he also presented a variety of documentary, sports and light entertainment programmes for HTV. In addition to this, he appeared in series such as ‘Pen-blwydd Hapus’ and ‘Pacio’ on S4C.

Arfon was ordained to the Gorsedd in the Llanelli National Eisteddfod in 2014 and in 2022, he received the John Hefin Award for his lifetime contribution to broadcasting in Wales.

Having first bought a Kyffin Williams painting almost fifty years ago, Arfon subsequently met Kyffin through his TV work and the two became firm friends.

The 13th annual Sir Kyffin Williams Memorial Lecture will be held at Oriel Môn in Llangefni on Friday, 12 May at 7pm.

It will be in the medium of Welsh with simultaneous translation available.

Booking is essential and tickets - £5 with a complimentary glass of wine – are available from Oriel Môn’s reception desk or by telephone.
