Anglesey coastal toilets set for significant upgrade thanks to £248,000 fund

Anglesey residents and visitors will benefit from a £248,000 fund awarded by Welsh Government to improve four coastal toilet facilities on the island.

The fund is part of a £2.9million package announced by Welsh Government’s Economy Minister Vaughan Gething under the Brilliant Basics capital fund. It will help to deliver small-scale infrastructure improvements in strategically important tourism locations across Wales.

Toilet provision at four of Anglesey’s busiest beaches (Benllech, Trearddur Bay, Porth Swtan and Porthdafarch) will be modernised and improved.

Improvements to the facilities will include; outside shower facilities, adaptations to washrooms, additional EV and electric bike charging points (varied between the four sites). New interpretation will be included to maximise visitor information and digital uptake to assist with wayfinding connections between attractions.

Visitor Economy and Coastal Areas Manager, Gwenllian Owen, said, “The local amenities available play an important part in the visitor experience. This funding will help us to improve toilet facilities across various locations on Anglesey.”

She added, “Consequently, this will improve the overall experience visitors have when they visit our stunning beaches.”

The project will also look at installing grey and black water disposal points at two locations. This will make it easier for visitors to dispose of their waste responsibly and ethically.

Anglesey County Council Deputy Leader and Economic Development Portfolio Holder, Councillor Carwyn Jones, said, “We very much welcome this investment, which will help us to modernise some of our public conveniences on the Island.”

“This funding will help us to improve the visitor experience across busy locations on Anglesey. Additionally, the installation of new water disposal bins will have a positive environmental impact across our communities.”
