Isle of Anglesey County Council

Anglesey appoints new Head of Regulation and Economic Development

Today (April 29, 2021), the Isle of Anglesey County Council confirmed the appointment of Christian Branch as its new Head of Service: Regulation and Economic Development.

Christian had previously held the post in an interim capacity since January 2020.

Christian has worked for the County Council for more than 20 years, having initially joined the Social Services Department as a support worker in 1999. He also spent part of his early career with the Planning Service, where he worked as a Countryside Warden and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Officer.

He moved on to the Regeneration Service in 2005, where he developed and secured funding for activities which helped the socio-economic renewal of Anglesey. As a development officer, he later managed the £5.6m Coastal Environment Project, which improved infrastructure around our coastline.

A number of lead roles centring on developing the high profile Energy Island Programme followed, before his appointment to the role of Regeneration Service Strategy and Business Manager in 2013 until January 2020.

As the Council’s newly appointed Head of Service: Regulation and Economic Development, Christian will continue to lead on work to develop a thriving and prosperous local economy.

He will also provide strategic leadership in Planning, Public Protection, Regeneration, Destination, Leisure and Energy Island Programme.

Anglesey Chief Executive, Annwen Morgan said, “I’d like to congratulate Christian on his appointment. Whilst serving as interim Head of Service during the past 12 months, he has been an integral part of our Coronavirus Emergency Management Response Team. As we, hopefully, head towards an end to the terrible pandemic, Christian will continue to play a vital role in developing the Island’s economy.”

Christian Branch added, “I’m proud to be appointed to such a key role. I look forward to working with colleagues, elected members and our stakeholders to deliver positive economic and community regeneration, which will benefit both residents and businesses.”

Christian is fluent in both Welsh and English, is married, has two children, and lives in Clwt y Bont.
