Flying Start is part of the Welsh Government’s early years programme for families with children under 4 years of age.
The programme aims to provide intensive support services for children aged under 4 years old and their families. The focus of the programme is on promoting:
- language skills
- cognitive skills (such as thinking, understanding, learning, and remembering)
- social and emotional skills
- physical development
- early identification of high needs
We do this through the delivery of health support and guidance, parenting support and groups and speech, language and communication support and quality part-time childcare for 2 to 3 year olds.
Flying Start is a multidisciplinary team, which includes health visitors, family workers, childcare staff, health visitors, speech and language therapist, early years teacher, health assistants and a team of dedicated support staff.
