The Handyperson Support scheme is a free service provided by Tai Môn Housing Services to support our tenants with small household jobs.
Who can use the scheme
You are eligible if you are either:
- aged 70 or over
- registered disabled, receiving higher-rate care or mobility Disability Living Allowance, enhanced Personal Independence Payments or Attendance Allowance
What the can handyperson help with
The scheme is designed for small jobs that can be completed within your allocated time.
Examples include:
- hang curtain poles
- fitting a toilet seat
- fit shelving
- hang pictures
- disassemble and assemble furniture
- small painting jobs
How to book
You can book a handyperson appointment in the same way you report a housing repair. When you book, we’ll talk through the details of your request in more detail.

What Tai Môn will provide
- Labour only – carried out by one of our qualified multiskilled repairs and maintenance operatives.
- Operatives will bring their own tools and basic consumables (screws, nails, wall plugs, sealant, masking tape, paint brushes/rollers and so on)
Please note:
- each household can use hourly slots up to 4 hours of support every 12 months. We will confirm with you the slot time for your requested job.
- tenants must supply their own paint for all painting and decorating jobs.
- soft landscaping (for example grass cutting, hedge trimming, planting) is not included.
Identification and safety
Our operatives can be identified by their official ID Badge, council uniform and vehicles. If you are unsure, please ask to see their ID or call 0808 168 5652 to confirm.
Never let anyone into your home if you are suspicious of them.

The council will provide labour only.
However, as a rule, our handyperson staff will carry consumables such as screws, nails, wall plugs, sealant and so on.
They will also carry the necessary tools for the job.
It is up to you to provide materials, such as shelving, cabinets, toilet seat, curtain rails, paint and so on.
This is a free support scheme for eligible council tenants.
Your handyperson appointment will be carried out by one of our qualified repairs and maintenance operatives.
You will be able to identify our staff through their uniform, vehicles and identification badges all of which carry the council logo.
