Isle of Anglesey County Council

Benllech active travel proposed scheme: second consultation

Purpose

Isle of Anglesey County Council is consulting again on active travel routes in Benllech. We aim to improve the walking and cycling environment for residents and visitors.

We have taken into account the constructive feedback received during the initial consultation in 2023.

The purpose of the consultation is to gather your views on the revised proposals.

Background

The feedback received during the initial consultation was used to refine the proposed improvements and address the concerns raised.

Key changes since the previous consultation

Original proposal in 2023

Providing a one-way system from the Square, along Beach Road to Bay View Road had raised concerns surrounding the vehicular diversion length for the residents of Beach Road and Ffordd Cynlas and the negative impact on daily movement.

Our new proposal

Reduced the one-way system to align with the ‘pilot’ one-way system that has been in place over the summer months. The one-way section is proposed to begin beyond Ffordd Cynlas junction to the Welsh Water site entrance, with a shared use.

Original proposal in 2023

Concerns regarding potential ‘rat running’ through Craig Y Don Estate to avoid the one-way system that was proposed from the Square to Craig Y Don / Tyddyn Fadog.

Our new proposal

Extended the one-way system and shared-use-path from the Square, along the B5108, to Lon Pant Y Cudyn to remove the risk of ‘rat running’, as well as established on-street parallel parking bays to access Ysgol Goronwy Owen, and re-configured Lon Pant Y Cudyn junction.

Original proposal in 2023

Acknowledged road safety risks at the Square and recommended further investigation to establish safer road safety environment for all users, including better pedestrian crossing facilities to cross the A5025.

Our new proposal

Introduced a new signalised pedestrian crossing to connect the public car park to the supermarket, and relocation of existing signalised crossing closer to the Square. Proposed one-way route for vehicular traffic onto B5108 only to reduce some vehicular pressure at the Square.
