Isle of Anglesey County Council

Senedd Cymru elections

The Senedd (Welsh Parliament) represents the people of Wales and is responsible for services such as health, education and transport.

Conwy County Borough Council will act as the lead authority for administering the 2026 Senedd election for the Bangor Conwy Môn constituency, which takes place on 7 May 2026.

This is being done to make sure that the poll is delivered consistently across the region.

Significant changes will come into force before the next Senedd polls on 7 May 2026.

Everything you need to know is available on Senedd Cymru’s countdown to the 2026 Senedd election page.

Changes to the Senedd

Wales will have:

  • 16 constituencies instead of the current 40
  • 96 members of the Senedd instead of 60
  • new constituency boundaries created by Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru
  • Six members elected in every constituency

New voting system

The new system is called a closed proportional list system. This means:

  • you vote for a political party or for an independent candidate
  • the ballot paper shows the full list of candidates in your constituency
  • seats are allocated in proportion to the percentage of votes each party or independent candidate receives

Parties gain seats if they receive enough votes. Independent candidates can win seats on the same basis.
