Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn - Isle of Anglesey County Council

First Past the Post

This 2 May, if you are 18 or over you will be able to vote in the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) election and, for the first time, votes will be counted using the First Past the Post system.

The First Past the Post system explained

When elections use the First Past the Post system, your ballot paper will give you a list of names and political parties – these are your candidates.

At the top of the ballot paper you will be told how many names to choose.

Once counted, the candidate with the most votes becomes your representative.

Here is a short video giving you more information about this system.

The difference between First Past the Post and how the count is done at other elections

In General, local and Senedd elections, voters choose a first and second choice vote. On 2 May, you will choose a single candidate on the ballot paper.
