Activities

Ein Hanes Ni

In the Spring Ysgol Gwenfaen, Rhoscolyn together with Menter Iaith Môn, TeliMôn, S4C and the Partnership took part in Ein Hanes Ni. The project encourages children in their ‘bro’ to learn about the people, the language, the buildings, and the customs of where they live. This gives voice and value to the fond memories of older members of the community, while educating the next generation about local history.

As part of the project pupils asked questions of older residents to discover the history of their local area, and consider how things have changed over the years. The project encourages children and people to visit different places in the villages, discuss the history, and search for lost information. Every discovery was documented, put together in the form of a short film, and then shown to area residents through special presentations at the end of the project, for the benefit of the whole community.

Guided Walks

During August 2022 the Partnership organised the Cybi Walking Festival in collaboration with local organisations. A variety of walks were led by the Countryside and AONB Team, the RSPB, Holyhead Maritime Museum and the North Wales Wildlife Trust sharing their expert local knowledge of Ynys Cybi’s distinctive environment, community and heritage.

In September 2022, Breakwater Park Countryside Warden Wil Stewart led a well-attended walk around the Rocky Coast, to the summit of Mynydd Twr and then on to the Quillet fields near Pentre Mynydd. There were also contributions on the natural environment, traditional stone-walling and history from the RSPB, Kehoe Countryside and Partnership officers.

Grants for Community Activities Ynys Cybi and Us

During the Autumn of 2022 the Partnership launched the Ynys Cybi and Us Community Activities Grant. The Partnership were pleased to receive a large number of applications and at Panel awarded eight local organisations with grants of between £400 and £1000. The grants will fund various activities including supporting the St. David’s Day parade, sessions for parents and toddlers to explore the natural world, composing a rap in Welsh to raise awareness of the history of Holyhead, and the creation of a 3m high wicker Welsh dragon.
