 Background

The Safer Streets Fund is a £75 million Home Office programme that encourages Police and Crime Commissioners and local authorities to bid for investment for initiatives to prevent neighbourhood crime.

The Holyhead Town project will see funding go towards a number of projects, including:

  • improved street lighting in around the town centre and the installation of new and upgraded lighting and CCTV cameras
  • provision of target hardening and crime prevention packs for properties to help prevent neighbourhood crime
  • provision of high visibility police patrols to help tackle and prevent violence against women and girls (VAWG) offences and anti-social behaviour (ASB) as part of night-time economy

A youth intervention fund jointly administered by the Police and Crime Commissioner's (PCC) office and Holyhead Youth Services will also support young people. The project will help to develop initiatives that will encourage young people in Holyhead to stay of out trouble, such as arranging activities, providing youth shelters and youth outreach work.
